Looking for things to do in Mexico? There are a fantastic range of exciting Mexico attractions just waiting to be explored. From the beautiful beaches, natural ecological parks, mysterious archaeological sites and modern day monuments, Mexico is home to an enviable list of exciting possibilities.

Throughout the country you can visit the historic sites of Chichen Itza, Teotihuacan, Palenque and Tulum or marvel at the iconic buildings of Mexico City. You could also explore the geographical formation of Cenotes in Quintana Roo or experience scuba diving at the Belize Barrier reef.

There is a truly diverse range of locations to explore and an inspirational variety of things to do in Mexico. This page contains a selection of my favourite attractions in the Mayan Riviera.

1. The Beaches

The stunning, sun-soaked beaches were the main reason that enticed us to visit Mexico for the first time.

You could easily spend your entire vacation sunbathing on the beautiful white sandy beaches in the Mayan Riviera. With spectacular views overlooking the Caribbean Sea and water based activities such as parasailing, scuba diving and snorkeling, we were definitely not disappointed!




2. Chichen Itza

The iconic archaeological site at Chichen Itza has been classified as one of the 'New Seven Wonders of the World.'

Discover the mysterious origins of the Mayans and learn about the fascinating cultural advancements. When you stand at the base of the commanding Kukulkan Pyramid you will soon understand why Chichen Itza just has to be considered as one of the top ten Mexico attractions.




3. Rio Secreto

The unique exploration experience at Rio Secreto has only been open to the public for a few years.

At this attraction you can enjoy a guided tour and explore the natural underground river with breathtaking views of the Stalactites and Stalagmites. This is one of my favourite things to do in Mexico, if you get the opportunity to visit and explore this spectacular site, then you should definitely take it.




4. Xel-Ha Eco Park

The Xel-Ha Eco Park is a beautiful naturally formed environment located in the Mayan Riviera.

This lush ecological park offers tourists the opportunity to experience an enchanting and memorable day out on their vacation. You can try snorkeling for the first time and explore the impressive marine life. You could also discover a variety of unique Mexican animals as you make your way around the park. Xel-ha provides a number of activities that the whole family will enjoy.






5. Swim with dolphins

Swimming with dolphins is a captivating experience.

This is the kind of attraction that so often features on popular lists of things to do before you die (otherwise known as bucket lists). If you plan to stay in one of the resorts throughout the Caribbean coastline, then there are many popular centres nearby where you can experience the sensation of swimming with dolphins.



6. Xcaret Ecological Park

The Xcaret Ecological Park is home to an impressive range of activities that the majority of people will enjoy.

Alongside the beautiful natural environments and adventurous activities in the park, you may also enjoy the opportunity to learn interesting historical facts and find out more about the cultural traditions of Mexican People.




7. The Mayan Ruins of Tulum

Visiting the Mayan Ruins of in Tulum is a magical experience.

The combination of the Caribbean coastal setting and fascinating historical significance, make this cultural tourist attraction one of the most popular and publicised things to do in Mexico. After visiting Tulum, you could venture on further to explore Coba, or even visit the nearby Gran Cenote to make a fantastic day out to remember.




8. Xplor Adventure Park

Xplor is an exciting, high energy adventure park in Riviera Maya.

There are a variety of interesting sports activities to be explored here, activities include traveling on zip-lines, venturing through the jungle on amphibious vechiles and swimming through underground cenote caves.
If you fancy a break from sunbathing on the beach, then you will find an adventurous and adrenaline fueled experience at Xplor.




9. The Coco Bongo Club

The world famous Coco Bongo Club offers a unique excursion experience and is well worth a visit.

The club is a popular hotspot for young people enjoying their Spring Break vacations. However it is also a great venue for anyone just looking for a night out on their vacation. The club is located in two different locations with venues in Cancun and Playa del Carmen.






10. Catamaran Boat Trip

A Catamaran boat tour is a great way to experience the beautiful panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea.

You can enjoy all-inclusive food whilst relaxing on board the boat and watching the world go by. When setting out on this excursion you are picked up by coach from your hotel and transported to your destination.
You would then board the boat and set sail for your catamaran adventure. There are usually a few stops where you can experience snorkeling and scuba diving in the Caribbean sea.
